Herman L. Shoemaker
August 22nd, 1936 - April 20th, 2015
Herman L. Shoemaker, 78, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Monday (April 20, 2015) at his residence. He was born in Coeburn, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport the majority of his life. Herman worked for many years with Brooks Equipment Company and later became self-employed for several years. He eventually retired from A & L Industrial. Mr. Shoemaker loved being a farmer and was an avid carp fisherman having spent most of his weekends at Hidden Valley Fish Pond in Kingsport. He was well known in this area being a master carp fisherman. He was a very active member of Greenvale Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as Song Director and Deacon. Herman was a very loving and wonderful husband, father, papaw, and great papaw. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Smith Shoemaker; parents, Maynard and Audrey Stidham Shoemaker; sisters, Virginia Bradshaw and Beulah Monroe. Herman Shoemaker is survived by his sons, Donnie Shoemaker and Kim Gibson (Kingsport, TN), David Shoemaker and wife, Karen (Trenton, MI), Darrell Shoemaker and wife, Christy (Kingsport, TN); his grandchildren, Brad Shoemaker, Matt Shoemaker and wife, Danielle, Lauren Shoemaker, Ryan Shoemaker, Karlie Shoemaker, and Kaylie Shoemaker; great grandsons, Kamden and Brady; brothers, Kyle Shoemaker and wife, Bertie, Nile Shoemaker and wife, Kathryn, Rev. Harold Shoemaker and wife, Frances, C. L. Shoemaker and wife, Linda, Alvin Shoemaker and wife, Jennifer; his sister, Jean Cloud; sister-in-law, Nellie Smith; special friend, Judy Dikes along with several nieces, nephews, his carp pond family, and farming friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday (April 22, 2015) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Harold Shoemaker, officiating. Music will be provided by Dan Moneyhun, Sue Williams, and Dana Moneyhun. A graveside service will take place on Thursday (April 23, 2015) at 11 a.m. at Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Alvin Shoemaker, C.L. Shoemaker, Nile Shoemaker, Brad Shoemaker, Ryan Shoemaker, and James Click serving as pallbearers. Kyle Shoemaker will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport, 116 Jack White Drive, Suite 6, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to Morrison Chapel UMC Trustee Cemetery Fund, 2019 Chapel Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665. A special thank you goes to Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport for the special care given to our "Dear Dad". Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Shoemaker family.
