Frans Leopold Wery

Frans enjoyed his 84 years of life to the fullest, hand in hand with his wife Elska. In the past few months his health rapidly declined due to Angiosarcoma, which ended his life peacefully at home on 17-April-2011. Frans grew up in Holland, where he completed medical school, moved to the US, and married in 1956. After two years as a Navy physician he joined Group Health Cooperative for 29 fulfilling years. Frans enjoyed exploring the beautiful state of Washington as well as traveling the US, Europe and the world. He was passionate about being on and in the water, where lake living colored his life with swimming, sailing, family and friends. He loved building big bonfires on the beach at his home around which everyone would gather for philosophical conversations. During retirement he was an active long-time volunteer for Compassion & Choices of WA. Frans leaves behind a strong family where he was also a favorite uncle for nieces and nephews in the US, Holland and Mexico. He is survived by his wife Elska; daughter Cisca; son Willem Frans and wife Kathy; grandchildren Elly, Erica, Robert Frans, Michael and adoring granddog Cady. Years ago he lost his youngest son, Friso, to Cystic Fibrosis. Frans will be remembered for his compassion, humor, wit, smile, hospitality, involvement with politics, lively discussions, love of nature and adventure, gardening, reading (leaving behind his Kindle), hiking, his beach and enjoyment of life.
