Gate City - William Edwin "Ted" McDavid, 89 of Gate City, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 10, 2015 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a WWII veteran where he served in the 2nd Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and 4 battle stars. Ted attended Hiltons Memorial United Methodist Church. Ted retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 41 years of service. He loved to be with people and fishing was his hobby. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Velma Roberts McDavid in April, 2014 and his son, Joel McDavid. Ted is survived by his daughter, Alethea Henderson and husband Jim; son, Reve McDavid and wife Vanessa; grandchildren, Laura McDavid, Jeff Henderson and wife Kim, Lisa Harrison and husband Gabe, Will McDavid and Noel McDavid; great-grandchildren, Josh and Aaron Henderson, Matthew and Andrew Mathes, Zack Harrison, Copper and Callie McCurry; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. A Funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. Music will be provided by Grace Stidham. Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery with the American Legion Post #3/265 Honor Guard conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be Jeff Henderson, Will McDavid, Matthew Mathes, Andrew Mathes, Josh Henderson, Aaron Henderson, Barry Helms, Cody Helms, Gabe Harrison and Tim Babb. Honorary pallbearers will be Harlan Peters, Jim Henderson, John Snodgrass, Arles Greene, Paul Bright and Joe Greear. Those who wish, may make memorials to Hiltons Memorial UMC, Attn: Building Fund, PO Box 10, Hiltons, VA 24258. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver, Robin for the wonderful care shown to Ted during his sickness.
