Darrell D.A. Honeycutt
July 13th, 1923 - March 6th, 2015
Darrell (D.A.) Honeycutt, 91, of Kingsport died peacefully with his family by his side Friday, March 6, 2015. Born in St. Charles, Virginia, July 13, 1923, he attended St. Charles High School. Darrell was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during WWII in the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion, having received five Battle Stars. Darrell retired from Mead Paper after 28 years. He coached football and baseball at Bell Ridge School and Lynn Garden Optimist. He had many golf buddies at the original Meadowview golf course and was a Charter member of The Crossings. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Marie Honeycutt; two brothers, Bobby Doyle and John Jr; and brother in law, Gene Corbin. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Johnnie Parks Honeycutt; sister Faye Corbin; Three children, Cheryl Salaita and husband George, Cathy Stallard and husband Randy, and Steve Honeycutt and wife Sharon; niece, Jeanne Lobb and husband Dan; loved as children, Chris and Becky Darnell; grandchildren, Jason and Kelley Honeycutt, Jessica and Chris Shibley, Josh Stallard, Stephanie Stallard, Jennifer and Joel Habermas and Heather and Jace Cochran; great nephew, Nick and Sarah Lobb; great nieces, Rebecca and Jason Reynolds and Mallary Lobb; great grandchildren, Lincoln and Nathan Honeycutt, Josiah, Caleb and Eleonora Shibley, Lydia and Anna Kate Habermas, Cora and Corbin Lobb, Luke, Ava and Maggie Kate Reynolds. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm Tuesday (March 10, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 3pm with Rev. Millard Porter and Rev. Odell Beuchamp officiating. Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery with Rev. Joe Hill officiating and military graveside rites presented by the American Legion Post 3/265 and the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be Jason Honeycutt, Chris Darnell, Josh Stallard, Chris Shibley, Joel Habermas, Jace Cochran, Nick Lobb and Jason Reynolds. We appreciate the many friends and family who prayed for many years and rejoiced in his salvation in 2008. Morrison City Mission was his home church.
