Lee Roy Baker
December 30th, 1918 - January 21st, 2015
Lee Roy Baker, 96, of the Hiltons Community, passed away peacefully (January 21, 2015) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. Lee and was born and has lived in Scott County all his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Upon release from service he lived a full, active life. He was a charter member of the Hiltons Fire Department. A loyal member of the Hiltons United Methodist Church. He served on the Public Service Authority of Scott County for 14 years. He served on the Road Viewers Commission of Scott County for 15 years. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after many years of service. Lee loved to be around people, having never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Drusie Baker; son, Jeffrey Lynn Baker; sister, Mabel Baker McMurray and three brothers, Joe M., Ray and John Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Delphia McMurray Baker; son, Calvin Baker and wife Lou Ann, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Amanda Bumgarner and husband Eric, Brad Baker and Rachael Baker; two great grandchildren, Ethan and Caleb Bumgarner; brother, Nat Baker and wife Gaye; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends whose friendship he held dear. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7pm Saturday (January 24th, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7pm with Pastor Will Shewey, Pastor Mark Kilbourne and Rev. Rex McMurray officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm Sunday at Holston View Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 3/ 265 and the Virginia National Guard. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:20pm to follow in procession. Pallbearers will be Brad Baker, Eric, Ethan and Caleb Bumgarner, Thomas Baker, Bill Baker, Gary, Terry and Hershel Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Mann, Grady Blalock, Reagan, Rex and Ricky McMurray, Dennie Haynes and members of the Hiltons Fire Department. Those desiring may make memorials to the Hiltons United Methodist Church P.O. Box 10 Hiltons, Virginia or to the charity of their choice.
