Alice M. McKort
January 4th, 1931 - August 12th, 2012
Born January 4, 1931, peacefully passed away August 12, 2012 with her family lovingly by her side. Alice is survived by her husband Virgle; daughters Ruby, Joyce, and Ginny; grandchildren Kirk, Kristi, Kim, Jesse, and Christina; great grand kids, Jessica, Riley, Brian, Jacob, and Kalob. Originally from Los Gatos, CA, Alice moved and to Quesnel, BC, where she met Virgle who was working for Alice’s’ family owned sawmill. They soon married when Alice was just 16. Throughout the 65 years they spent married, the two of them endeavored on many different journeys together including moving to Kamloops Canada on a motorcycle, even living in a tent, and finally settling in Puyallup, WA where they started Mac’s Septic Service. Alice was always Virgle’s right-hand man so to speak. The two of them spent 21years in retirement and were able to share many joy-filled days aboard Mac’s Toy out in the sound, dancing about at Halloween parties held in the shop, and spending many summers with family and friends at the property on Lake Tapps. Alice loved to sew, read and spent many hours deep in crossword puzzles or strolling through thrift store with one of her daughters. She spent much of her time relaxing in her sunroom, watching the birds, often with knitting needles in hand making anything from small rugs to pot holders. Always very social, she made her house a welcome place to us all. She graced us all with many conversations over cocktails, leaving each of us with our own memories whether across from her own kitchen table, from inside motorhome parked at the lake, or while wintering in Arizona, she touched us all in various ways. Alice took so many people in and treated them as her own. Often addressed by the endearing label of “Auntie Alice” because of her unconditional love and caring nature for those of us she thought needed a little extra attention. Many of her grandkids share fond memories of her burning out or spinning the tires in the Cadillac and thought of her as their “hot-rodding” grandma! Not only caring, but courageous, she attended every horse show one of her daughters participated in, even holding one of the horses so another could be shown, despite being terrified of them. Alice was always willing to do anything for her daughters and their children. She even opened her home to a couple of her grandkids so they could finish school in their own home town. None of us could’ve asked for a better wife, mother, grandmother, or friend. She gave so much, touched so many lives. She will be by greatly missed and will remain in our hearts. The family is planning to host a memorial celebration of Alice’s life on Saturday, September 8th, at 1PM at the family property on Lake Tapps. You may email the family at [email protected] for more information and directions.
