“Sally Roscoe died peacefully on Feb. 18 at the Collier Hospice Center, in Wheat Ridge, surrounded by her family and friends. Sally faced chronic illness with grace and courage. Her stamina, positive attitude and will to live as well as her impeccable style and fashion sense were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. A 17-year resident of Summit County, Sally was a dedicated community member who volunteered her time in service to many organizations. Most notably, Sally was on the executive committee for the Blue River Group of The Sierra Club’s Rocky Mountain Chapter, and she was a member of The National Geographic Society and The Colorado Geographic Alliance. Born May 28, 1957 to Milton and Reba Roscoe of Kansas City, Mo., Sally was a 1975 graduate of Park Hill High School. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado in 1978, Sally continued her education at the University of Colorado where she earned a Masters degree in Geography in 1991. Sally fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a teacher when she returned to Missouri to begin her career. Over the years and in and out of classrooms, Sally Roscoe taught hundreds of students in Denver, Collbran, Grand Junction and Frisco. As a loving aunt, Sally always managed to know how to provide help to her nieces and nephews when, in response to a challenging history or geography homework assignment, they would employ the study strategy “Call Aunt Sally.” Sally took great pride in her nieces’ and nephews’ lives. In 1993 while giving a lecture on global and local water issues to her middle school students, Sally met and fell in love with co-presenter, Scott Hummer, the current Water Commissioner for the Blue River Valley. Sally and Scott were married on Feb. 16, 1998, in Breckenridge. Throughout their lives together, Sally and Scott shared a passion for travel in the Mountain West, skiing and hiking as well as a dedication to preserving the beauty and resources of the western landscape. Sally’s family would like to acknowledge Dr. Katherine Fitting, Dr. Craig Perrinjaquet, Dr. Bryan Baer, Dr, Susan Mason, all the staff at Bristlecone Home Health especially nurses Barb Hedges and Noreen Galaba, the fifth floor nursing staff at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, and Nutrishare Inc. her pharmaceutical supplier for more than 10 years, for their steadfast support, tireless advocacy and sincere commitment. Sally is survived by husband Scott Hummer of Dillon, mother Reba Roscoe of Kansas City, Mo., brothers Mike Roscoe of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Bob Roscoe of Eagle, and twin sister Susan Casebeer of Snowmass Village. Sally was preceded in death by her father Milton Roscoe and sister Becca Huber.
