Richard Marks of Nokomis, FL passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024. He was born January 30, 1938 to Carmella Crecca and Richard E. Marks in Newark, NJ. Richard graduated from West Side High School and Seton Hall University with B.S. and M.A. degrees. He excelled in baseball and was inducted into the Seton Hall University Hall of Fame in 1979. Richard served in the US Army Reserves before playing in the minor leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates, followed by a season with the Canadian Baseball League. He then taught in West Orange and Newark, NJ public schools before becoming the first Superintendent of Parks and Recreation in Scotch Plains, NJ. For many years, Richard had the honor of being a recommending scout for the Cincinnati Reds. He completed his career working for Union County as a Supervisor before retiring and moving to Florida. While residing in Florida, Richard worked part-time at Manatee Community College as well as Venice High School as a substitute teacher. He thoroughly enjoyed playing in the Venice Softball Leagues, especially with the Florida Legends. Richard was active at Epiphany Cathedral Catholic Church in Venice as an usher. He enjoyed helping people, dancing, and traveling. Richard is survived by his children: Kristina Schetelich and her husband Steven, Karen Mineo and her husband Vincent, and Richard Marks and his wife Tracey. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: David Stevens, Megan Winkler, Michael Mineo, Daniel Stevens, Jessica Mineo, Nicholas Mineo, and Julien Marks; and six great-grandchildren: John Winkler, Anna Winkler, Colette Winkler, Claire Winkler, James Mineo, and Rose Smith.
