Thomas "Tom" G. Carr
May 30th, 1936 - March 9th, 2024
Thomas (Tom) G. Carr, aged 87, departed peacefully from this life on March 9th, 2024, at his home in Chico, California. Surrounded by the love of his family, Tom transitioned into eternity, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will endure through generations.
Born on May 30th, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Thomas Carr and Lula (Vance) Grams, Tom's journey through life was marked by adventure, service, and profound connection. Growing up in Michigan, he embarked on a path of service to his country after graduating high school, proudly serving in the United States Army with a posting in Panama.
Upon returning from service, Tom pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from California State University, Los Angeles. His career as a Social Worker spanned many years, embodying his commitment to helping others and fostering positive change in his community.
Tom's entrepreneurial spirit flourished as he ventured into business ownership, establishing an Irish Pub in Paradise, California, and an ice cream and burger joint in Lincoln, California. These ventures not only showcased his business sense, but also provided gathering places for communities to come together.
Tom enjoyed 25 years of retirement. Many of those years were spent exploring the United States in his fifth wheel with his beloved wife. His love for travel eventually led him back to California, where he could be close to his family during his twilight years.
A man of many talents, Tom found joy in music, lending his voice to choral groups and Barbershop Quartets. His passion for singing brought light and harmony to those around him.
Tom's memory will be forever cherished by his wife of 38 years, Janice, his sons Tom, Michael (Kathy), Douglas (Terry), Christopher (Cynde), daughters Cosima (Shawn), Jennifer, as well as his 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Philip, and his older brother, Ross (Marilyn). He was an amazing Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandpa and Grampi.
In celebration of his remarkable life, a gathering of remembrance will take place on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, at 1pm until 4 pm, at the Lakeside Pavilion in Chico, California. As we honor Tom's legacy, may his spirit continue to inspire us to live with love, laughter, and boundless generosity.
