Morgan James Kennedy
May 11th, 1936 - July 23rd, 2017
"Morgan James Kennedy, 81, of South Hadley, beloved husband of Maureen Kennedy for 58 years, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 23, 2017. Born in Holyoke, May 11, 1936, he was the son of the late John J. and Julia (Finn) Kennedy. He was predeceased by his brother John T. Kennedy. He spent his career in non-profit agencies serving youth, and retired as Chief Financial Officer for HCS Head Start. After retirement he served as Federal Monitor for the Head Start Program. He served on the Board of Directors at Mt. Tom Institute, Head Start and Girl's Inc. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and was a member of the finance committee. He also served his country in the National Guard for 7 years. In addition to his wife Maureen, Morgan is survived by three children, Thomas Kennedy of Northampton, Kathleen (Kennedy) Folta of North Grafton; and Mary Kennedy-Grumoli of South Hadley; his six grandchildren David Folta, Kelly Hammond, Steven Kennedy, Jillian, Kyle and Kara Grumoli; and two great grandchildren Alaina and Liam Hammond. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-laws, Joanne and Jimmy Adams, William Sullivan, Elaine Regnier, Gail and Henry Funk, pre-deceased by Peggy and John Slowik, and Mary Kennedy, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his 'Friday night friends'. Morgan was a fun-loving Irishman with a great sense of humor who always made those in his life feel special. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 9:00am on Thursday, July 27 followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at St. Patrick's Church, with burial at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7:00pm at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to the Sisters of St Joseph of Springfield, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to Sister Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital, 271 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104."
