Simone Ida Desjardins
October 7th, 1919 - March 16th, 2007
" Simone Desjardins, 87, died Friday March 16 at Chapin Center in Springfield, MA. Born October 7, 1919 in Lowell, MA she was the daughter of the late Wilbrod and Ida (LeBlanc) Asselin. Before her marriage Simone worked at Martin’s Five and Dime Store in Springfield. She resided in Holyoke for many years before moving to South Hadley in 1983. She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church. Simone enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, cooking and most importantly, caring for her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 58 years, Leo Desjardins, Sr., her five loving children, Girard and his wife Kim, Marie Demers and her husband David and Rita Sabourin all of West Springfield, Leo, Jr. of Newbury Port, MA and Normand with whom she lived. Her five grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, Girard, Jr., Andrew and Marie and her great grand-daughter Madelyn and niece, Denise Dow of Chicopee also survive her. Besides her parents, her siblings Gabrielle Briere, Doris Hebert and Girard Asselin also predeceased her. A funeral service will be Wednesday, March 21 at 9:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street (Rte. 116), followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Rose DeLima Cemetery, Aldenville. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. At the family’s request, donations may be made in Simone’s memory to the St. Theresa’s Renovation Fund, 9 East Parkview Dr., South Hadley, MA 01075. "
