Margaret "Peggy" Reed
January 29th, 1922 - September 25th, 2014
"Holyoke - Margaret "Peggy" (Gray) Reed, 92, died on September 25, 2014 at Loomis House. She was born January 29, 1922 in Plainfield, CT, daughter of Frank and Myrtie (Gray) Griffith. She graduated from Plainfield High School, and earned a degree in accounting from Bay Path Institute. Peggy was a resident of South Hadley for over 60 years and retired from South Hadley High School as a bookkeeper. She was active in many town committees including, Town Meeting Member, Women's Club, Library Trustee, Historical Society and Chamber of Commerce. Peggy was an active member of 4 -H since 1936, a member of DAR since 1938 and Society of Old Plymouth Colony Descendants since 1940. She was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Chicopee. In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling, cooking, bird watching and candlepin bowling. She is survived by five sons, Alan & his wife Susan of Dumfries, VA, Paul & his wife Debbie of Ocala, FL, John & his wife Karen of Long Valley, NJ, Donald & his wife Mary of Fairlee, VT, and Ronald & his wife Mary of Granby, MA. She also leaves two sisters Myrna Whaples of Essex Junction, Vt and Lena Barry of Storrs, CT, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and six siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Reed. The family would like to thank the staff of the second floor at Loomis House for their attentive care. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, Montcalm St., Chicopee. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in S. Hadley. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Village Cemetery of South Hadley Falls c/o Jon Camp, 202 Lathrop St., S. Hadley, MA 01075 or 4-H, 101 University Dr., Suite A4 UMASS Amherst, MA 01002. "
