William R. C. Edgar
April 5th, 2015
William Robert Creighton Edgar, 90, of Arlington Virginia died Sunday, April 5, 2015. He was born to the late Carl John and Gladys Pearl Edgar, of Pittsburgh, April 15, 1924. Bill graduated from Swissvale Senior High School in 1942 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 1955 and his MBA from Harvard University in 1957. Bill married Lois Price, his middle school sweetheart, creating a union which lasted 69 years, until her death in July 2014. The couple had two children, James Curtis and Lori Jeanne (Edgar) Worley. Bill and family enjoyed a thirty year career in the USAF. Assignments included Bavaria Germany; Bergstrom USAF Base, England; Greater Pittsburgh AFB; Allied Forces Southern Europe (NATO), Naples, Italy; The Pentagon, in Arlington, VA; AF Military Adviser to Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey; AF Liaison Officer to the US House of Representatives; and Langley AFB, Hampton, VA where Bill ended his career in 1972 as Commander, 4500th Air Base Wing. Bill was active throughout his life. He loved working on and caring for motor vehicles, including his first car, a 1924 Ford Model A roadster. His other passion was that of flying. He would regale listeners with exciting stories of the Berlin Airlift, flying exploits, and near-death airplane accidents. Bill very much enjoyed golfing, boating and travel, but he took his greatest pleasure from having the family gather at their beach property in Delaware. Whether it was huddled around the fireplace, sitting on the beach, or simply enjoying views from the balcony, he always had a fun and interesting story to share. Bill was a life-long Master Mason and member of Infinity Lodge #0546, Verona, Pa. He was also a member of several Masonic Appendant Bodies to include the Scottish Rite, Royal Arch and Shriners. Upon retiring from the military, the family returned to the Northern Virginia area where Bill began a second career as VP for Government Affairs at the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). This was followed by VP for the Gates Learjet Corp. and he concluded his efforts as Senior Partner for the lobbying firm LR Associates, where he joined his son in representing transportation oriented companies and independent businesses. Bill is survived by his son James of Falls Church, Va., his daughter Lori of McLean, Va. their spouses Janelle and Robert; three grandchildren, Lauren, Creighton, and William; great grandson David, and soon, a great granddaughter. A service honoring his life will be held Friday April 10, 2015 at Little Falls Presbyterian Church, 6025 N. Little Falls Road, Arlington, Virginia 22207, beginning at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
