Dorothy Spencer Chase
July 24th, 1917 - August 13th, 2014
"South Hadley- Dorothy Spencer Chase, 97, of 20 Bayon Drive, died on August 13, 2014 at home surrounded by family. She was born July 24, 1917 in Holyoke, MA, daughter of Elmer Clayton and Olive (Spencer ) Tucker. Dorothy was raised in Holyoke and lived there until she moved to Loomis Village in South Hadley in 2003. She was predeceased by her loving husband Hazen P. Chase. She was a 1934 graduate of Holyoke High School and a graduate of Wheaton College and Simmons School of Business. Dorothy was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the Board of Trustees. She was very active in the community as a volunteer and served on many other boards including the Junior League of Holyoke, Forestdale Cemetery and Loomis House. In 1958, she founded the St Paul's Nursery School, which served the community for over 50 years. She will long be remembered as an avid Red Sox Fan. Dorothy enjoyed her life at Loomis Village playing bridge and bingo. She was very involved in the writers club writing her memoirs. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children; Clayton Chase and his wife Jo-Ann of Auburn VA., Richard Chase and his wife Cheryl of Bloomfield CT, and Elizabeth Spencer Hyde of South Hadley. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday August 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton St., Holyoke, MA 01040, Children's Museum at Holyoke, 444 Dwight St., Holyoke, MA 01040 or Sarcoma Research Fund, Mass General Hospital c/o Andy Kitaeff 100 Cambridge Street Suite 1310 Boston, MA 02144. "
