James “Pop-Pop” D. Newcomb (Age 70) A long time resident of Alexandria, VA, James passed away June 11, 2013. He is survived by his son, Troy Newcomb; daughter, Traci Newcomb, her husband, James Fahey and her two daughters Ashlee Newcomb and Kattarina Reisetter; his nephew Jack Faulkner and niece, Jill Faulkner. James was born in Lonaconing, MD on December 25, 1942. He grew up in the rural town of Burlington, WV. James was introduced to his late wife, Nadine Pratt, in Keyser, WV because of their Christmas birthdays. On December 31, 1963 the two wed. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy before being drafted in June 1964. James moved to Newport News, VA to serve in the United States Navy for four years on USS Douglas H Fox (DD779). After his service, James worked as a union painter for 37 years in Washington, D.C. He was known to point out and tell stories about every scaffolding downtown that he had his hands on. The past 25 years, James has been a loving and attentive grandfather to his two granddaughters—providing them with childhood memories they will never forget. His family and friends remember him for his infamous one-liners and witty sense of humor. A celebration of his life will be held at the family home at 5:00pm on Saturday, June29th. In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ name will be made to the American Cancer Society.
