Hector Alfonso Coello

Hector Alfonso Coello, age 69 of Union City, NJ returned to the Lord on May 19, 2020. Dr. Coello was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the eldest son of Alfonso Coello and Elena Solis. He graduated from the University of Guayaquil Medical School and was recognized for having the best doctoral thesis in his class for its high scientific value. During his career as a urologist and surgeon he served multiple communities in Ecuador. He married Martha Munoz in 1972 and together they raised three daughters. Dr. Coello had a passion for reading and collecting medical journals, and one could always find him in his home office enjoying a good book. Most of all, he enjoyed teaching his daughters about his home country of Ecuador, the Spanish language, and the value of education. It is his family’s prayer that he is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus reunited with those family members who preceded him in death including his parents and brother Aurelio Coello. Those left to cherish his life include his children Alexandra Shabelski (Jim), Jennifer Coello, and Martha Elena Larnard (Zach); grandchildren Audrey, Caroline and Juliet Shabelski, and Elena and Joseph Larnard; siblings Nilda de Moncayo, Eduardo and Efren Coello; and countless nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA with the Reverend Steven Oetjen officiating. Interment will follow immediately thereafter at the National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dr. Coello’s life.
