Antonio Alves

"Belchertown, Antonio “Tony” Alves, 84, died At Baystate Medical Center on Friday, August 27, 2010. Born in Ludlow, MA on May 11, 1926 he was the son of Americo and Antonia Alves. He was a proud Air Force Veteran, serving his country during WWII. Tony worked for the US Postal service for 30 years and was an accomplished barber. He will be missed by his life companion of 34 years, Joan Bourgeois, his children, Patty Alves (Jaro Roth) of Shutesbury, Carol Kelliher (Keith) of Springfield, Michael Bourgeois (Pamela) of South Hadley, Marc Bourgeois (Kristina) of Holyoke and Matthew Bourgeois (Angeline) of Agawam along with his 12 grandchildren. His four sisters, Theresa Goodrich (James) of Ludlow, Lucy Lavoie (Raymond) of Ludlow, Mary Alves (Doug Young) of Belchertown and Zinda Leary (Edward Leary, Sr.) of Agawam, and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Three brothers, Carlos, Joe and Tabs, predeceased him. He also leaves his beloved Shih-Tzu, Oreo. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Beers and Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. (Rt. 202). Followed by burial in Mass Veterans’ Cemetery.
