John Edward Unverferth
September 4th, 1942 - October 17th, 2022
John E. (Gus) Unverferth II, of Arlington, VA, passed away on October 17, 2022 at the age of 80. Gus was pre-deceased by his wife, Sondra, his parents John and Rita and sister Patricia Amelang. He is survived by his sisters Jo Crosby, Katy Huffman and Pauline Aaron, sons John (Elizabeth), William (Lureta), Douglas (Melissa), step-sons Lee (Anne Marie) Van Atta and Darrick (Jennifer) Van Atta and nine grandchildren. He will be missed by all. Gus was born in Bend, OR. As a child moved with his family across the US and as far away as Germany, settling in Arlington. After enlisting in the Army, he married, started his family and graduated from George Washington University. He spent the first part of his career as a Dept. of Defense civilian employee and the second part working in Northern Virginia working with various DoD contractors. Gus enjoyed time with family and friends, walking Arlington's trails and supporting the local sports teams.
