Russell "Russ" DeWitte Allison
May 24th, 1957 - November 9th, 2023
Russell DeWitte Allison, a lifelong Arlington resident, passed away on November 9 after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. Born May 24, 1957, Russ attended Washington-Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School, participating in marching band and serving as drum major his senior year, then carrying his love of music throughout his life by playing guitar and occasionally singing. Graduating in 1979 and remaining a proud “Hokie” for life, Russ attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech), graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in English, and married shortly after. An avid fitness enthusiast, musician, and staunch conservative, Russ was known to engage in political discussions with friends and adversaries, often on topics related to climate change, conservative vs. liberal agendas, and the role of government in the lives of citizens and corporations. Mentored by many individuals he admired, Russ spent his professional career securing contracts between private sector businesses and the federal government. Russ enjoyed few things more than an evening spent on the porch smoking a fine cigar, enjoying an adult beverage, and playing his guitar. Russ is preceded in death by his parents Kitty June Morehead Allison Naber and Richard Russell Allison. He is survived by sons Zack (Whitney) and Troy Allison; sister LeeAnn Allison Batkins (Mike); former wife and friend Kathy; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Bruno. The family will host a Celebration of Life on November 14, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Advent Funeral Home. Interment at a later date at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Smithfield, Virginia.
