Kenneth C. Fox
October 23rd, 1916 - May 4th, 2016
"Kenneth C. Fox passed away at home on Wednesday, May 04, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born on the kitchen table at 349 Chestnut St., Holyoke on October 23, 1916 he was the son of Joseph and May (Whittaker) Fox. He attended the Holyoke School system and was employed by the Holyoke City Library until he volunteered for service in the US Army in 1942. Trained for a Chemical Warfare battalion, he served in several countries in the European Theatre of Operations, ending up in a Security Police detachment guarding Supreme Headquarters, Allied Forces Europe in France prior to mustering out in 1946. He was hired by the US Post Office Department in 1951. He worked at the Holyoke Post Office from that date until he retired in 1985. Ken was a proud dues paying member of Western MA Area Local, APWU, until the day he died and was an active member throughout his career. He remembered his days at the Post Office and his many co-workers fondly in his retirement. He was a communicant of Saint Theresa's church in South Hadley. He also was a life-long blood donor, donating over 18 gallons and participating into his eighties. Ken is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Jeanne A. (Fournier) Fox. Ken and his family lived in South Hadley from 1971 to the present, and prior to that in Granby. He is also survived by his children: son Louis Fox, at home, who has provided patient and loving care for Mom and Dad for the last 14 years, earning the eternal gratitude of his parents and siblings, son Stephen Fox of South Hadley, son Christopher and wife Dale (Gardner) Fox of Belchertown, Michelle Fox and husband David Crow of South Orange, NJ. He leaves behind grandchildren Andrea Fox and husband Peter Knutson of Schenectady, NY; Angus Fox of Charlotte, NC; Antonina Fox of Chicopee; Casey Fox of Boston, MA; Ian Fox of Ann Arbor, MI; Helen Crow of Charlottesville, VA; and great granddaughter Veda Fox Knutson of Schenectady, NY. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews and their families. His was predeceased by his beloved sister, Josephine (Fox) Turgeon, and daughter-in-law Renata M. (Gajewski) Fox, both of South Hadley. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Beers and Story Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street in South Hadley. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Holyoke Public Library, where Ken and Jeanne met, or to the local charity of your choice. "
