Katherine Janell Spears
March 30th, 1960 - October 27th, 2020
Katherine J. Spears was born March 30, 1960 to Carl R. Spears, Jr. and Janettle Jones. She attended John Boroughs Elementary, Taft Jr. and then went on to Elliott Jr. High and graduated from Spingarn High School. She was a dedicated employee of Howard University Hospital from 1986 to 2019. Kathy was a proud and devoted AA member, due to receive her 35th Anniversary chip in December 2020. Katherine loved to "shop" and enjoyed hand dancing, she was well known amongst her friends as the "Hand Dancing Queen". She was an adamant "Bid whist" card player and enjoyed hosting card parties and cooking for her friends. Words to describe Katherine would be self-made, brave, reliable, strong, beautifully powerful, determined, outspoken, generous, fighter and friend for life. She was predeceased by her father, her husband, Anthony J. Gorre and her brother, Daryl Coles. Survivors include her mother, daughters Tiara L. Spears, Jaudene L. Spears, Markyla Jones and Oasis T. Spears, of Washington, DC. Her sisters, Paulette D. Fenwich, of North Carolina, Janell L. Baker (Anthony) of Tennessee, Keeva V. Armstrong, Darylene Coles of Washington, DC and many grandchildren, niecese and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Advent Funeral & Cremation Services, 9013 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD. Those who would like to remember Kathy in a special way should send donations to their local women's, children and homeless shelters.
