"Belchertown- Walter L. Papp, 95, of Mill Valley Rd. passed away peacefully on February 15 at Wing Memorial Hospital. Born April 27, 1910 in Caldwell, NJ, he was the son of the late Alexander and Maragret (Kirimi) Papp. Walter has lived in Belchertown since 1955, and previously resided at Cape Cod. He was employed as a civil engineer for the 8th Air Force at Westover, belonged to the Civil Engineers Association and was a former assessor for Belchertown. Walter has been a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a member of its choir and of the Knights of Columbus. His voice and musical talents extended to the Valley Light Opera, the Carriage Towne Players and the S.P.B.S.Q.S.A. He enjoyed entertaining school children with his gift of storytelling. Walter was predeceased by his wife Helen L. (Powers) in 1992 and is survived by his four children, Thomas Papp and Sandi Rupert of Sacramento, CA, Mary-Jane Valadez and Virgil Fetting of AZ, and CO, Elizabeth Murch and John of Odessa, NY, and David Papp and Dawn of Sammamish, WA, along with 16 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He also leaves siblings Elizabeth Best, Alexander Papp, Jr., and John Papp. Besides his wife, Walter was predeceased by a sister Margaret Roskovics and a brother Stephen. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 22 at St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Hadley, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Church organ fund or to the Polus Center/Walking United. "
