Doug, age 88, of Charlotte passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 30, 2018. He was a lifelong citizen of Charlotte, proud of his city as it grew to the financial center it has become. Doug enjoyed his years at Harding High School from which he graduated. He started his career with Fruit Dispatch now known as Chiquita Banana as sale manager. For 35 plus years he worked as an industrial lighting consultant for Jewel / DuroTest. A couple of other interesting jobs he enjoyed in his long career were as a Radio Shack Manager , Manager of the Village Theater and as a District Manager for the Charlotte Observer. The whole family was informally involved in the Observer while he was there delivering papers when carriers didn’t show up! He was a deeply involved member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for 55 years. During these years he held many different positions including Superintendent of Sunday School and teaching the 8th grade Sunday School Class, Head of the Official Board, Coached Youth Baseball, Head Usher, and Greeter. Doug and Gerry along with Tom Russell chaired WeCare a full time life crisis ministry for 6 years, which provided food, clothing, appliances and furniture to those in need. Helping people through his work with WeCare was one of the joys of his life. He will be missed. Doug was a kind and joyful person who made a special effort to make those he came in contact with smile. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Rowe Little, his four children: Elizabeth Little Oliver (Libby) and her husband Davis R Oliver of Littleton, Co, Wanda Little Butler, Gary T Little of Charlotte, NC and Douglas R Little Jr (Ray) and his wife Wanda H Little of Statesville, NC Doug was the grandfather of seven: Lara Oliver Chu of Piedmont, CA, Ryan Oliver of Parker, CO, Kathleen Hucks of Ypsilanti, MI, Alexis Little of Charlotte, NC, Cody A. Little, Angel G Little and Cheyenne F Little of Statesville, NC He had four great grand children: Jackson R Chu, Parker D Chu, Michael R Chu of Piedmont, CA and James S Hucks of Ypsilanti, MI The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 9:30-11:00 AM at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. The funeral service with Dr. Samuel Moore officiating will begin at 11, also at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations should be sent to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Snack Pack Ministry.
