Ruth Costner Lane

Ruth Costner Lane went to be with The Lord on Thursday, September 6, 2018. Mrs. Lane was born September 25,1920 in Mint Hill, North Carolina to the late Rufus Alexander and Corenna Rebecca (Boyette) Costner and graduated from Sharon High School in 1937. She was a devoted wife to Noah Bryant Lane, Sr. for 49 years, until his death in 1989. Together they raised four children. Ruth served as a Scouting Den Mother and School Grade Mother for many years and was loved as a second mom by many. She was an amazing cook whose signature recipes will be handed down for generations. She was a voracious reader of all genres of literature, a tenacious solver of crossword puzzles and a keen observer of politics and current affairs. Ruth was an avid craftswoman; a skilled seamstress, who also enjoyed embroidery and crochet, she made many beautiful and cherished gifts for family and friends. Ruth was a generous and kind hearted woman who was always there to help those in need. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and loving husband Noah (Mutt) Lane, she was also preceded in death by son 1LT Michael Stephen Lane, sisters Alice Culp, Lois Mae Mills, Blanche Costner, Elizabeth Lane, Margaret Starnes, Evelyn McRorie, granddaughter Mary Ruth Lane and grandson Adam Courtney Lane. She is survived by her sister Pauline Brewer and children Noah Bryant Lane, Jr (Norma) of Ft Mill, David S Lane, Sr. (Monnie) of Charlotte and Rebecca L Sherlin (Robert) of Statesville, as well as grandsons Michael Lane (Gwen,) David Lane (Carol,) Mark Lane (Katrina,) Chris Lane, Brandon Lemmons, Greg Sherlin (Meredith) and Noah Lemmons. She had 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Additionally, she is survived by beloved nieces and nephews Tina Hardy (Russell,) Terry Rush, Bobby Lane, Steve Lane (Diana,) and Jenna Starnes. Graveside services will be held at Sharon Memorial Cemetery 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 8th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in Ruth Lane’s name, to: Hospice & Palliative Care Palmetto Region 1057 Red Ventures Drive Suite 150 Fort Mill, SC 29707
