William Cornelius Carmody
March 16th, 1910 - September 24th, 2005
"William C. Carmody, 95, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 24th at the Williamansett Nursing Home. Born in Springfield, MA on March 16, 1910 to the late Patrick J. and Jane (Noone) Carmody, he lived in Springfield for many years and was a 1927 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He later moved to Longmeadow, where he lived for many years, before settling in Belchertown in 1978. He was an active volunteer in the community, serving on the Housing Authority, devoting many hours at the Senior Center and Clapp Library, and supported the needy at Kate’s Kitchen in Holyoke. Bill was an avid music lover who led numerous singing groups throughout the valley, was loyal to his family and friends, had a wonderful sense of humor and an encouraging spirit. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Rita (Shea) Carmody who died in 1977 and a son William J. Carmody in 1955. He is survived by his two daughters Kathleen Carmody and Deborah J. Bowen and her husband William of Belchertown, his son James Carmody and his wife Martha, of Springfield, along with his six grandchildren Kevin and his wife Jennifer, Thomas and his wife Apryl Bowen, Teresa (nee Bowen) and her husband Steven Terzi , and William, Daniel and Timothy Carmody. He also leaves four great grandchildren Madison Bowen, Dominic and Olivia Terzi and Justus Bowen. Calling hours will be held at Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 27 from 4:00 –7:00 pm. A liturgy of Christian burial will be on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Belchertown, with the burial immediately following at St. Michaels Cemetery in Springfield. The family has asked for memorial contributions be made to the charity of their choice in his name. "
