Richard H. Sattler
September 16th, 1919 - May 23rd, 2005
"Richard H. Sattler, 85, of Lukasik Street in the Fairview section, passed to his final rest surrounded by his loving family on May 23, 2005 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam. Born in Holyoke, September 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Theodore and Flora (Hennig) Sattler, attended Holyoke schools, and lived in Fairview for the past 50 years. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Chicopee and was a retired plant superintendent of the former Holyoke Wire Cloth Company. Dick was a member of the Mt. Tom Masonic Lodge since 1958, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4044 and the Chicopee Lodge of Elks. He was a past president of the Holyoke YMCA swim team and a former member of the Holyoke Country Club. An avid sports fan, Dick also enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and hunting. He also appreciated gardening, bird watching, traveling, and a good game of cribbage. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Constance E. (Salomon) Sattler, and their devoted pets, Misty and Simba. He will also be dearly missed by his two sons and their families: Richard, Jr. and Karen of Houlton, Maine and their two daughters, Robin and Heidi, and Jeffrey S. and Darlene, of South Hadley, and their four children, Christy, Ashley, Scott, and Douglas. Richard also leaves behind two brothers, Earl Sattler of New Jersey and George Sattler of Agawam. Calling hours will be Thursday, May 26, from 4-7 pm at the Beers and Story Funeral Home in South Hadley. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, at 1:00 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Fairview followed by burial in St. Anne's Cemetery in Palmer. Donations may be made in Richard's memory to the Hospice Program at the Visiting Nurse Assoc. and Hospice of Western New England, 50 Maple Street, Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102-9058."
