Beers and Story - Belchertown
Anna L. Wisneski
May 30th, 1911 - June 14th, 2013
"Belchertown, Anna L. (Shuttleworth) Wisneski, 102, the town's second oldest resident, died peacefully June 14 at Baystate Medical Center with her family by her side. Born on May 30, 1911, she was the daughter of John D. and Ellen (Karlsson) Shuttleworth and was a lifelong resident. A graduate of Belchertown High School, she furthered her education in the field of nursing, later obtaining an additional degree in metallurgy. She worked at the former Belchertown State School as an RN, and then, following the death of her husband, Edmund F. in 1959, she developed a career in engineering at Rathbone Corp in Palmer. Anna was the oldest member, former deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Belchertown Congregational Church. She was also a member of the Revere Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, a former registrar and regent of the Mary Mattoon Chapter of DAR, and a life member of Belchertown Historical Society. She was a former president of the Tupper Family Association of America and proud to be a direct descendent of the Green Mountain Boys. An accomplished needle worker, she designed, made and donated the Town Seal which stands in the Hall of Flags at the State House in Boston. She enjoyed numerous trips to Scotland, satisfying her appreciation of the country and its music. She donated much time to area nursing homes and, at home, loved birding and her precious cats, Porter, Pixlie and Pali. She was grateful and honored to be recognized by the Town of Belchertown on her 100th birthday. She will be forever missed by her daughter, Ann Squires and her husband Leslie of Belchertown along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, her 4 siblings Harold, Helen, Edward and Ruth preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at the Belchertown Congregational Church at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:30 preceding the service. For those wishing, please make donations in her memory to the Belchertown Congregational Church, Park St. "
