Elizabeth "Alden" Carolyn Reed
April 10th, 1914 - May 3rd, 2005
" Elizabeth Carolyn (Alden) Reed, 91, of Taylor Street, died May 3 at Holyoke Medical Center. Born April 10, 1914 in Chicopee, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Abbey (Calkins) Alden. Mrs. Reed was very proud of the fact that her grandfather and father founded and laid out the streets for the Aldenville section of Chicopee. Elizabeth graduated from Enfield High School in 1932 and has lived in Granby since 1936. She served on the Board of Registrars for the town of Granby and was instrumental in bringing voting machines into town. She also served on the Board of Deaconess at the United Church of Christ and was a member of the women’s guild and music committee. She enjoyed her retirement years in Birch Harbor, Maine with her husband Charles. She loved to paint with oils and her home was decorated with several of her paintings. She is survived by her son, Edward Reed of South Hadley, two daughters Brenda Knight and her husband George of Granby, and Charlotte Owen of Ludlow and her sister Virginia Fibkins of Wappingers Falls, NY. Elizabeth also leaves 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1992. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at United Church of Christ in Granby. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 -7:00 pm at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her memory to the United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 177 Granby, MA 01033, the activity department at Wingate Nursing Home, 202 South Hadley or to the charity of one’s choice. "
