"George A Lovell, Sr., 85, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 27, 2009. Born August 20, 1924 in Marlboro, MA, he was the son of the late Don and Martha (Sunter) Lovell and the last of 7 siblings; Clarence, Don, Albert, Lewis, Ellen Cutler, Marion Copeland and Laura Cullinane. George served in the US Merchant Marines and US Army during World War II and was a member of Palmer Legion Post #130. He retired from Armco Steel, formerly New England Metal Culvert in Palmer with 35 years of service. He was also employed at Monson Developmental Center in housekeeping for several years. George was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing cards, billiards and trips to the casino. George will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Janice (Kenyon) Lovell, along with his seven children, Martha Fila of Palmer; George Jr. and his wife Lori of Goshen, VT.; Cindy Colburn and her husband Glenn of Monson; William and his wife Lynn of Indian Orchard; Christopher and his wife Kelly of Mohegan Lake, NY; Matthew and his wife Lisa of Palmer; Leah Belitsos and her husband Andrew of Wolcott, VT. He also leaves ten grandchildren Mindy Fila, Lyndsey Colburn, Caroline Hill, Lauren Colburn, Annette Lamica, Daniel Lovell, Rebecca Lovell, Benjamin Lovell, Daryl Lovell and Christopher Lovell, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 1 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., Palmer. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m.at the funeral home. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the Wildlands Fund, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, 251 Causeway St., Suite 400, Boston MA 02114-2152."
