"Belchertown-Charles L. Berard, Sr. 90, passed away May 22, 2016 at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home with his family and friends at his side. Born April 29, 1926 in Lowell, he was the son of William and Mary (Letendre) Berard. Charles proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He has lived in Belchertown since 1987, previously residing in Springfield. Charles was a carpenter and also was a driver for Hulmes transportation. In his leisure, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, whale watching and 10 pin bowling. He will be missed by his children, Donna and her husband John Calkins of Ludlow, Suzanne Cassamasse and her husband Michael of Springfield, Barbara Reigottie of Glassboro, NJ, daughter-in-law, Pamela Peters of Palm Bay, FL along with seven grandchildren, Brian Peters, Cheri Peters DeFusco, Michael Cassamasse, Jennifer Calkins, Lindsay Taylor, Adam Cassamasse, Rachael Reigottie Fells and 7 great grandchildren. Charles also leaves his siblings, Lorraine Chrzanowski of Enfield, CT, Claire Losito of Agawam, and Donald Berard of Monson along with his extended family, the Coxs. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Nancy Cox, his sons, Charles Berard, Jr. and Eddie Peters, his grandson Mark Jackman, and his siblings, Leo, Girard, Urban, Raymond, Robert, Rita and Mary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home with a service at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private in New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers' Home (include in memo 3North Hospice), 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040"
