The stories he told of his earlier years were ones of poverty and hardship. This is what made him the man he was. He met and married Mary E. Kupferschmidt. Although young, they were truly meant to be. They raised 6 children and took in foster children to keep the love in their hearts going strong for over 60+ years of togetherness. The stories of him from his family members and children will echo on through the rest of their lives, for he was a truly remarkable man. Such as memories of him fixing up bikes to donate to those less fortunate under-privileged children, he coached little league after hours in the evenings, he taught inner city youth classes to help them further their lives in a more prosperous job market and he would rescue dogs and cats and give them a second chance at life. His children have very fond memories of times spent with him. His efforts at working 2 jobs to satisfy his desires of travel has spread into his children’s lives in many, many ways. He planned many great vacations spent RVing and camping across the country many times. He often told his children how he never had the opportunity to go anywhere and he wanted to make sure that didn’t happen to them. Their stories are told around the dinner table at every gathering with smiles. He was the kind of person to make anyone feel welcomed, as all were strangers at first and friends when they left. He would offer you a cup of coffee, a beer or a sandwich, never missing the chance to make you feel welcomed and at home inside his house. He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by those who loved him the most, his family. We will miss hearing the tales, funny anecdotes, razor sharp humor, but most of all we will miss the hugs and love he so freely shared with us all. Fathers are Wonderful People By: Helen Steiner Rice Fathers are wonderful people too little understood and we do not sing their praises as often as we should For, somehow, Father seems to be the man who pays the bills while mother binds up little hurts and nurses all our ills And father struggles daily to live up to his image as protector and provider and “hero of the scrimmage” And perhaps that is the reason we sometimes get the notion that fathers are not subject to the thing we call emotion But if you look inside dads heart where no one else can see You’ll find he’s sentimental and as soft as he can be But he’s so busy every day in the grueling race of life He leaves the sentimental stuff to his partner and his wife But fathers are just wonderful in a million different ways and they merit loving compliments and accolades of praise For the only reason dad aspires to fortune and success is to make the family proud of him and bring them happiness and like our Heavenly Father, he’s guardian and a guide someone that can we can count on to be ALWAYS ON OUR SIDE. Obituary written by Robbin Everitt Thank you to the Agape Hospice organization for all their help and care.
