James Michael Monty

"James Michael Monty, 57, of Main Street in the Thorndike section of Palmer, died peacefully on December 16 in Baystate Medical Center with his loving family by his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Springfield, May 26, 1947, he was the son of the late Louis and Shirley (Benway) Monty. Jim lived in Springfield and Belchertown for many years, before moving to Thorndike six years ago. He worked for many years at Titeflex in Springfield and had previously worked for the City of Springfield. Jim will be well remembered as a “Harley Man” and for his caring nature to those in need, be they friend or stranger. He will also be remembered for his appreciation of fishing, nature, good times and music. He will be deeply missed by his wife Mary Margaret Shea along with his daughter Patience Anne Monty of Belchertown and his son Shea Austin Monty at home. He also leaves three brothers, Philip of Guilford, CT, and Lane and Keith of W. Palm Beach, FL, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 19 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main Street, (Rte. 20). A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. following the calling hours.
