Claudia Jeanne Olsen

Claudia Jeanne Merrick Olsen of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on December 2, 2021, with her husband beside her. She was born October 17, 1946 in Chadron, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Clay Charles Merrick and Margaret (Peggy) Jeanne Thompson Merrick. Claudia had a very close relationship with her father, and she followed him and her grandfather into pharmacy. She followed her mother and grandmother into DAR and PEO. She had wonderful relationships with her PEO sisters and contributed her talents to helping the organization. Claudia excelled in those things that were challenging, complex and systematic. Pharmacy led her to computers which she applied to improving hospital pharmacy operations. She became interested in genealogy to complete her grandmother’s research and became a very talented amateur genealogist. With her husband, Jim, she traveled widely and often displayed an innocent joy in God’s creations. Favorite trips were with Dr. Francis Robicsek opening programs to help people in Central America. Claudia is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, James Carl Olsen; brother Donn Merrick; sister-in-law Pam Merrick; nieces Sarah Merrick and Trisha Merrick Aronson and great niece Alexis Aronson and many more loving family and friends. A memorial ceremony will be held Friday, December 10th. At 1 PM at the Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends directly following the ceremony at the same location.
