Mona A. Lieberman
June 22nd, 1956 - March 2nd, 2022
Mona Lieberman of Mooresville, NC (formerly Howell, NJ/ originally the Bronx, New York, NY) age 65, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, in her apartment in Fort Mill, SC surrounded by loved ones. Mona was passionate about her career in education and was most recently a Math Professor at Mitchell Community College. In addition to her career, she was an active member of her local Jewish Community. She was Chair of the Jewish Council of Lake Norman and Co-President of the Lake Norman Chapter of Hadassah (a Jewish women’s volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to the land, the people, and the future of Israel). Mona will be best remembered for the countless events she organized over the years, mainly The Jewish Council of Lake Norman’s Jewish Deli Fest. This event provided the community a chance to enjoy Jewish delicacies that are sometimes hard to come by here in the south, including New York kosher-style deli sandwiches of corned beef or pastrami, potato knishes, and more, plus Israeli foods like falafel. Mona was a lover of Dunkin’ coffee, a fierce friend and an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Gary Lieberman, her son Scott Lieberman and his wife Abby, her brother Jack Torgow, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her graveside funeral service at 1:00pm on Friday, March 4, 2022, in the Hebrew section of the Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville (114 Oakwood Road, Statesville, NC 28677). Contributions in Mona’s memory may be made to the Jewish Council of Lake Norman via the donation page of their website (www.jewishcounciloflakenorman.org).
