Mary Elizabeth Brand
January 25th, 1927 - June 15th, 2022
A Life Well Lived, Lib, lived for 95 years and passed away peacefully in her sleep June 15, 2022. Born January 25, 1927, in Newborn, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Davis Gray Hinton and Kate Williams Hinton. Lib graduated high school and went on to complete a year of training in the Army Nurse Core. In 1946 she married Jesse Cline "JC" Brand when he completed his Naval Service after WWII. Together they raised four beautiful daughters. Lib retired as a sales associate from Lifeway Christian Bookstore. She was a devoted and active member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church (now Pritchard at South End) where she served in the Woman's Missionary Union, sang in the Sunago Choir and was a 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School teacher for 35 years. Gardening was a life-long love so she joined the Westerly Hills Garden Club. She loved the Lord, her church, missions and her family and will be greatly missed. Affectionately known as "Gankie" she leaves behind her daughters: Cheryl Lenelle Johnson, and her husband, Hanion, Mary Clyde Arbaugh, and her husband, Larry, Melody Jean Chang, and her husband, Mario; grandchildren: Jonathan Bowers and his wife Julie, Joel Bowers and his wife Sarah, Michael Chang and his wife Katy, Matthew Chang and his wife Jamie, Daniel Chang and his wife Sarah, and Caroline Hundhausen and her husband Moritz; great grandchildren: Zane, Camden, Will, Annabelle, Everett, Magnolia, McRae, Shepherd, Malacca and Nazareth; brother, Perry Hinton; and many more loving family and friends. In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her husband, JC Brand; daughter, Carol Lendell Bowers; granddaughter, Katherine Arbaugh; and great grandchildren: JP and Ellen Chang. The family will receive friends at 1:00PM with services to begin at 2:00PM Thursday, June 23, at Pritchard at South End Church with a graveside service to follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pritchard at South End: pritchardchurch.com or to Alzheimer's Association: alz.org Feel free to leave the family your condolences via the Tribute Wall provided.
