Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home
Thomas M. Skinner
September 19th, 1939 - July 13th, 2022
With family present Thomas (Tom) M. Skinner II, 82, of Charlotte, left his earthly home to reside with his Heavenly Father on July 13, 2022. Tom was a such kindhearted man who particularly loved spending time with his beloved wife, Claire, at home and at the beach. At the beach he was best known for passing out dog treats to any dog owner that walked by their beach house. He did not meet a stranger. Tom also loved singing with Singing Men of America and St. James Men’s Choir. He considered these men and their families as his own family and treasured every moment he sang with them. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tom was the son of the late Thomas and Jane Skinner. After graduating from East Mecklenburg High School, Tom enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country from 1957 to 1963. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Claire Skinner, son Scott (Karen) Skinner, daughter Kim Skinner, grandson Brad Skinner, granddaughter Lauren (Dillon) Young, great-granddaughter Aubrey Young, brother Ron (Brenda) Skinner and brother-in-law Rob Keziah and many more loving family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his sister Bonnie Keziah Tom would like to let everyone know that his work was done here. He received a call, sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends that he has not seen in a long time. This reunion will begin with the family receiving friends from 11am to 12pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. At 12pm the reunion will continue with a celebration of life service. After the service you are welcome to attend the graveside reunion at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
