"John H. Kummerfeldt, 78, died Thursday, May 7 in Palmer. Born in Carlstadt, NJ, December 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Hans and Hilda Kummerfeldt. He lived in W. Springfield and Westfield for many years before moving to Brimfield in 2000. A proud veteran, John served for 6 years in the U S Navy during the Korean War. Professionally, he worked for State Line Potato Chips in Wilbraham, retiring as regional manager after 25 years of service. Among his leisure activities, he enjoyed many family camping vacations in the White Mountains. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Priscilla (Shand) Kummerfeldt, along with his 5 children, Jay Kummerfeldt and Bonnie of Weare, NH, Beth DeVito and her husband Tony of Worthington, Linda Tesini and her husband Peter of Pepperell, Judy Orena of S. Windsor, CT and Robert Kummerfeldt and his wife Lori of Attleboro. He also leaves 9 cherished grandchildren and 2 special great grandchildren. He also leaves his siblings Mary Olsted of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Emma Dougherty of Hanahan, SC, Elsa Edwards of GA, and Frederick Kummerfeldt of Milford, Pa. Besides his parents, a sister Betty Walker preceded him in death. Family services will be held privately at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 Main St. Burial will be in Lee, New Hampshire. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans. "
