Mary Alice Feaster Miller Mary Alice passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 2, 2013 at Sharon Towers. Her 91 years were filled with a daily zest for life which was contagious, endearing, and inspirational to everyone with whom she came in contact. No one will forget her tenacious yet compassionate spirit and genuine friendliness. She had an exceptional memory for names and voices. As a 38 year veteran of the classroom she attended numerous class reunions amazing her students by telling them where they sat. She truly cared about everyone she knew. Mary Alice was born in Greenville, SC but grew up in Brevard, NC. Her parents, Marshall and Stella Allison Feaster predeceased her. She graduated from Western Carolina University in 1942 majoring in business education with a minor in English. She married Henry Y. Miller, also of Brevard. They and their only child, Marsha, moved to Charlotte in 1948. Lifelong Presbyterians, they joined Second Presbyterian Church which later became Covenant Presbyterian. Mary Alice taught business at North Mecklenburg High School where she headed the department until her retirement in 1982. She was known for the glorious petunias on her porch, her unfaltering devotion to her church, and, in retirement, for her wood-working accomplishments. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and her older brother, Mack Feaster. Mary Alice is survived by her daughter, Marsha Hanna and husband, David of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Joseph Hanna and wife, Leslie of Sanford, NC; sister, Emily Champion of Cartersville, GA; sister-in-law and best friend from college, Ruth Feaster of Reading, PA; five great-grandchildren, Meg, Audrey, Jonathan, Emily, and Cameron Hanna of Sanford, NC; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the Morrison Chapel of Covenant Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the church parlor. Her remains will be placed in the church columbarium beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, to Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
