Frances Kirby
September 24th, 1924 - May 23rd, 2013
Ms. Kirby, 88 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at her residence. Frances was born on September 28, 1924, in Belmont, NC. She was the daughter of William Birt Kirby and Rachel Smith Kirby. She worked in the hosiery industry for over 40 years, retiring in 1989. Frances is survived by her devoted daughter, Gail Penny and loving son-in-law, Jim Penny; brother, Bert Kirby and wife, Margaret of Simpsonville, SC; sisters, Gertie Sanderson and husband, Harry of Crowley, TX. and Mildred Johnson and Shirley Lawing and husband, Carl of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind her cherished Grand-dogs, Teddy and Angel who adored her and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers; Boyce, Dan, Richard and Bill Kirby and a sister, June Helms. Frances was an angel on earth. She loved unconditionally and she never met a stranger. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people smile. She was truly a one in a million Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard White, Dr. Wendy Brick, special nurses Cathy Hester and Shanti Perry and the entire staff at Levine Cancer Institute for their dedicated and compassionate caring of Frances. Dr. Gregory Kimmerle and staff of Mecklenburg Medical Group and the wonderful staff at Hospice, Charlotte Region South with special appreciation to her Hospice angels; nurses Katie, Julie, Jerry and counselor, Colleen. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice and Palliative Care - Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, The Humane Society of Charlotte 2700 Toomey Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203 or to the donor's charity of choice. A service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with visitation following the service.
