"Palmer, George N. Gustafson, 75, of Flynt St., died Tuesday at his home. Born in Springfield, he was the son of Gusta and Irene Gustafson. He began his working career at the Victoria Tire Co. of Springfield at the age of 15. He graduated from Technical High School in 1955 and joined the Navy that year. George served his country proudly as a Fire Controlman for 4 years aboard the destroyer USS Murray, DD-576. Following his discharge, he lived in Denver, CO for a year, working for the US Post Office, returning to the Springfield area, George was employed as an electrotyper by the Charles Van Vlack Co and Holyoke Electrotype Co. He also served as the secretary/ treasurer of Local 44 ISEU of Springfield for two terms. He completed his working career as a steel rule die maker for Federal Paperboard of Palmer, and Stan-Allen Co of Ludlow/Three Rivers. His best friends, Jeralyn and Jordan Tetreault and their special mom and dad, Heather Tetreault and Wayne will deeply miss him. George also leaves behind his niece Nancy of S. Hadley and Susan of Fairview, as well as his sister in law Peg of Fairview. All services are private and Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. To honor his service to his country, donations may be made in his memory to Wounded Warriors Project. "
