Daniel Thomas Hackney Mr. Hackney, 61, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on November 16, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville. He was born on July 28, 1951 in Charlotte, NC son of the late Daniel Ashby and Frances Thomas Hackney. Mr. Hackney graduated from South Mecklenburg High School and attended Western Carolina University. He then worked as a machinist until his health forced him to stop working. An avid football and basketball fan, he could always tell you who was playing and the scores, particularly the Tarheels. Mr. Hackney is survived by his sister Vicki Hackney Burckhardt and her husband, Don who loved Dan like a brother. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of CMC-Pineville and Dan?s kind neighbors Marilyn, Drew, Sandy and Rita. A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203 or Friendship Trays of Charlotte, 2401-A Distribution St., Charlotte, NC 28203.
