Robert Lee Ash

" Robert Lee ''Rob'' Ash, 22, of Granby died Saturday, July 26 as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Holyoke, May 3, 1981, he was the son of Robert R. and Deborah E. (Zurowski) Ash with whom he lived. Robert was a graduate of Granby High School where he played soccer and hockey. He was the captain of both teams during his senior year and made All League in both sports his senior year. He was a national competitor in speed skating. Robert also enjoyed rollerblading and snow boarding and everyone loved his wonderful ability for making people laugh. Rob was into Bruce Lee films and martial arts and was particularly fond of Kung Fu. He attended Northeastern University and was most recently employed at Skater's Choice in South Hadley and Marcotte Ford in Holyoke. Besides his parents, he will be deeply missed by his two brothers, Jonathan and Alan, both at home, as well as his three sisters, Alicia, Leanna and Adara also at home. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Max and Sophie (Michon) Zurowski of Springfield, and his paternal grandmother Helen (Jagla) Ash of Chicopee. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, S. Ray Ash in 1985. He also leaves his fiancé, Mary Ann Ruszala of Chicopee. Calling hours will be held Wed. from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. There will be a service of remembrance and video tribute at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby with burial to follow in West Cemetery. Friends and family may gather on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the mass or may meet directly at the church. Donations are requested to be made to either the Granby Police Assoc., Box 313 or to Granby DARE Sports, 194 W. state St, Granby, MA 01033 "
