" Richard I. “Benny” Garnett, 74, of N. Main St, died Sunday at home. Born in Newark, NJ, September 2, 1928 he has lived in Palmer since 1955. Mr. Garnett was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the Thomas Lodge of Masons. He worked at Tambrands for 32 years as a machinist before retiring. Benny was fondly referred to in Palmer as “the Mayor of Every Street Corner.” He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene (Gurski) Garnett in 1985. He is survived by a daughter Doryann Skomro of Monson, two sons Richard of Monson and John with whom he lived. He also leaves a granddaughter Jennifer Tenczar of Palmer. A funeral service will be Wed. evening, July 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. Calling hours will precede the service from 5:00—7:00 p.m. Memorial contribution may be made in his memory to Salvation Army 665 Liberty St, Springfield, 01104, or to Western Mass.
