John Cress Mr. Cress, 71, passed away unexpectedly from complications after surgery on August 4, 2011. John was born on July 21, 1940 in Salisbury, NC the only son of Margaret and De Monte Cress. He was a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury and attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory North Carolina. John had a long career as a professional photographer and closed his studio in 2008. His engaging portraits were treasured by families in the area. Among his interests was tutoring elementary students in reading through the Augustine Project at his church. John was a loyal and steady friend, a good father and a wonderful husband. He was a kind person and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his loving family ? his wife of 43 years, Kathleen; son, Hudson of San Francisco; daughter, Suzanne Cress Williams and her husband, Wesley of Charlotte, NC and their two beautiful children, granddaughter, Samantha and grandson, Devon. In addition he is survived by his sisters Margaret (Peggy) Brice and her husband, Ralph of Charlotte, NC and Laurie Farrell and her husband, David of Springfield, IL. Nieces include Carolyn Briggs and husband David and children Emily and Brian, Margaret Hines and Husband Robert and sons Robert and Thomas, and Jennifer Bognar and husband John and children John and Julia. A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends briefly following the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Augustine Project at St. Peter?s Episcopal Church, 115 W. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28202.
