He graduated from Myers Park High School where he was captain of the football team, and Appalachian State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so, make memorial contributions to the Charlotte Rescue Mission, 907 West 1st Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, or the Appalachian State University Athletic Department, Appalachian State Box 32025, Boone, NC 28608.
