Flora Yount Smith Mrs. Smith, 89, of Charlotte died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Emeritus at Eastover. She was born in Lincoln, County May 4, 1922 daughter of the late Julius and Lula Yount. Flora graduated from Union High School in Cats Square and obtained her degree in elementary education from Lenoir Rhyne College. She was employed with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for 33 years as a fourth grade teacher. After retirement she volunteered at Discovery Place for seventeen years. She also loved her weekly card games and traveled as often as possible. She had many friends and loved her church; Pritchard Memorial Baptist and her church family. Flora was a faithful prayer warrior and had a heart for missions. She was a leader with WMU and a very active member of the Dorcas/Rachel Sunday school class. In addition to her parents Flora was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband, Marvin L. Smith, Jr.; son, Phillip Smith; daughter, Karen Smith Jennings; brothers, Forest and David Yount and sisters, Olive Yount and Myrtie Yount Poteat. She is survived by her granddaughter, Jessica Jennings; special nephew and niece, Danny and Shelley Stout and many other nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff of Emeritus at Eastover for the excellent care that Mrs. Smith received. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011 in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with the Reverend Stan Heiser officiating. In lieu flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
