Edward Boyd

Edward Lee Boyd Mr. Boyd, 80, passed away on January 23, 2011 in the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1930 to the late Frederick A. Boyd and Iva Mae Simpson Boyd. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son, Lawrence Fetner Boyd and a brother, Hubert L. Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a graduate of Lenoir High School and Lenoir Rhyne College. He served for two years in the United States Army prior to entering the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received an MBA in 1958. Ed then went to work with NCNB. A factor or banker his entire career, he was President of Barclays American Commercial, the factoring division of Barclays American Corporation of American for over 20 years until the company was sold to CIT and he retired. Mr. Boyd was a member of the National Commercial Finance Conference and served on the Board of Directors for many years. He was also an associate member of the NC Textile Manufacturers Association and the SC Textile Manufacturers Association, Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. He also held an honorary lifetime membership in the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ellanor Fetner Boyd; daughter, Elizabeth Jane (Betsy) and her husband, Thierry Garconnet. Survivors also include his brother, Joseph A. Boyd and his wife, Janice of Brevard, NC; sister-in-law, Jeanne Boyd; and two nephews, Steven Boyd and his wife, Vickie and their son, Hunter, all of Hickory, NC, and nephew Richard Boyd of Blowing Rock, NC. There will be a memorial service at 2:30 PM Wednesday afternoon in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard, with the Reverend Deborah Conner officiating. The family will receive friends at the home Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:00. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Brighten Gardens for their loving care of Mr. Boyd in his latter years of his life.
