George Ralph Marett
April 24th, 1926 - March 13th, 2017
George Ralph Marett Sr., age 90, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017. George was born to the late Haskell A. Marett and Ella P. Reid Marett on Oconee County SC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Austell Marett in 2007. George served in the military during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He attended Georgia Tech and worked for 40 years for a Charlotte based general Construction contractor, retiring as a manager of its' international Division. He lived in Iran prior to the Iranian revolution and was instrumental in the safe departure of 273 people from Iran in early January 1973. He is survived by his children George Ralph Marett Jr. and his wife Jeanne; John Andrew Marett and his wife Pamela; and his daughter Elizabeth Austell Marett. He is also survived by two granddaughters and two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. A graveside service to celebrate George's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Weddington, NC 28104. Contributions in Georges' memory may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd. Monroe, NC 28110.
