Robert P. Kingsley
August 27th, 1936 - February 13th, 2008
"Robert P. Kingsley, 71, of Circle Dr., died suddenly Wednesday, February 13. Born on August 27, 1936 in Granby, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph Kingsley and Rita (Mettey) Kingsley Chevalier. Bob grew up in Granby and lived most of his life there, graduating from South Hadley High School in 1955. He furthered his education at Holyoke Community College and was a member of the Veteran's Club there. A proud patriot, he was a Veteran of the US Army 1st Calvary, serving in Korea. Professionally, Bob was a member of the Teamsters Local 404, and worked for UPS for 30 years, retiring in 1993. A civic minded person, he was a Lt. on the Granby Fire Department and was also an EMT. He also served on the Granby Cemetery Commission for 9 years, and was a member and past president of Granby Lions. He also played on the Western Mass. Relics Softball Team. His family spent summers in Goshen at Hammond Acres, where Bob served on the Board of Directors. He was also a volunteer for Holyoke Tutor Mentor Program (HALO) for several years. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, bird watching and many outdoor activities. He was a communicant of both Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby, and Our Lady of the Hills in Haydenville. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Francine (Turner) Kingsley, his children Thomas M. of Ludlow, Karen M. of Holyoke, and Joseph F. and his wife Susanne of Chicopee, along with his 4 precious grandchildren Brittany, Hannah, Evan, and Indiana. He also leaves a sister in law Maryann Kingsley of S. Hadley, his wife's sister Cheryl and her husband John Kisiel of Chicopee along with his in laws Frank and Gladys (Kummings) Turner of Palm Bay, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, his son Michael (1991) and brother John (1995) preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16 at 8:45 a.m. from the Beers & Story S. Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., (Rte 116) followed by a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in West Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to either Granby Lions Eye Research or their Groundhog Fund, P.O. Box 195, Granby, 01033"
