William McClintock

W. Banks McClintock, Jr. William Banks McClintock, Jr., 95, the kindest and gentlest of men, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, July 24, 2010. Mr. McClintock, a native and life long Charlottean, was born May 26, 1915, the son of Murl Pickard McClintock and William Banks McClintock, Sr. He was the widower of Dorothy McConnell McClintock, his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years. Mr. McClintock attended Charlotte schools and graduated with many honors including being elected as President of his 1934 Central High School senior class. He continued to Duke University on an athletic scholarship where he participated in football and track, achieving excellence in both. He also set a NC pole vault record. In 1936 he entered the business world, first with Associated Transport, and then Jefferson Standard Life Ins. In 1953 he joined Freemen-Tate Realty, which evolved into Freeman and McClintock, Inc. For many years, he appraised for and consulted with Duke Energy. Early in his career, he served as President of the Charlotte Board of Realtors, retiring in the 1990?s. As a life long member of the Presbyterian faith, he began his service at First Presbyterian Church. In 1947, he became a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he proudly served as a Deacon and became an Elder Emeritus. Mr. McClintock was held in the highest regard by all who knew him, both personally and professionally. Truth, honor and integrity were words he lived by throughout his life. God was always by his side. His family and friends were always treasured as irreplaceable. Always smiling and polite, always loving and giving, he was a great and gentle man. His wonderful sense of humor existed until the end. Mr. McClintock is predeceased by a daughter, Ann McClintock Coffey, a brother, James Harvey McClintock and a sister, Betty McClintock Huntley. He is survived by his son William Banks McClintock III and wife Patsy of Charlotte; brother, B. Gales McClintock and wife Caroline of Greenwood, SC; grandson, William Banks McClintock IV and fiancé Julie Simpson, both of New Orleans, LA.; grand-daughter Sloan Coffey Carper; grandson, Clay Coffey and wife Jill; great grand-children Wesley Clay and Julia Ann Coffey; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the sanctuary of Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
